Whether entering into a new relationship or going through the process of ending one, our dedicated team of civil partnership solicitors are committed to providing exceptional legal support to you.
The Civil Partnership Act came into effect in December 2005 and Sussex was one of the first places in the UK to host a registration ceremony.
Once you have registered your civil partnership the same legal rights exist within a civil partnership as exist in a marriage, for example with financial claims and financial settlements.
There are few differences between a civil partnership and a marriage and civil partnerships are open to people of both the same and opposite sex. Some individuals prefer a civil partnership because it does not have the religious connotations of a marriage. Like a marriage, a civil partnership can only be ended by a court order, in the same way as a divorce. This is known as dissolution.
Entering a legally recognised relationship or starting a family, holds special consideration for LGBTQ+ people and we are here to help you support and protect your rights.
Our specialist LGBTQ+ law team can provide expert advice in relation to a variety of issues and can also assist where disputes have arisen in civil partnerships.
We can provide advice about the creation of relationships, for example entering into a civil partnership or same sex marriage, Pre and Post Registration Agreements and Cohabitation Agreements. We can also advise you about civil partnership dissolution.
