Sussex Cancer Fund – One Year Update

Here at Mayo Wynne Baxter, we believe that is our responsibility to support and give back to our local communities. We do this by having all members of staff nominating a local charity and from the list and criteria we then narrow the list to 3 shortlisted charities. We invite these charities to tell us how we can make a difference to them. Our staff then nominates again and the successful Charity is chosen. We choose to support them for a two year period, so we can make the maximum impact for them.

Our Company Charity for 2018-20120 is Sussex Cancer Fund and in April we celebrated 1 year of our partnership!

A big thank you to everyone who participated in, and donated towards, the various Sussex Cancer Fund events and activities over this past year (April 2018 – March 2019).

We have participated in dress down days across the offices, fasted for Ramadan, held a Golf Day, organised Strictly Come Dancing and World Cup Sweepstakes, took park in dress up days in the form of Wig Wednesday, Elf Day and Christmas Jumper Day, danced in a Zumba class, held Silent Auctions, had various bake sales, and purchased each other Valentine’s Day Hot Chocolates.

Our main event held in honour of Sussex Cancer Fund was the Brighton Medieval Banquet. It was a great night and everyone had so much fun – a lot was raised that night and more importantly, Sussex Cancer Fund was highlighted and celebrated for all the wonderful things they do for cancer patients all across Sussex.

These events combined with the generosity of staff and clients donating into the collection boxes at our various offices, we have raised just over £13,800 this year!

A few weeks ago, we meet up with Dr David Bloomfield (SCF Chair) and Julia Lenton (Fund Manager) to hand over the cheque.

Dr Bloomfield was extremely grateful and said it allows them to be able to help so many people without worrying how they will fund it. An example was just that week, they had been able to provide funding for the CAB to come into the Sussex Cancer Centre and give support and advice to the cancer patients dealing with the stress of managing their finances. The funding had been stopped but they are now able to support it for another year. They are also always looking for ways to support more research into cancers that have, so far, been hard to cure. Theses funds are vital in allowing Dr’s to take time to carry out this research.

The SC Fundrunners would like to say a massive thank you to all involved.

Keep up the great work and let’s have an amazing second year!
