Leading South East law firm Mayo Wynne Baxter has strengthened its employment law team with the appointment of solicitors Belinda Mercer and Rohit Walia – enhancing its ability to support clients navigating an increasingly complex workplace landscape.
Belinda returns to employment law after several years working in the wine trade. She previously practised as an in-house employment lawyer, advising a wide range of organisations, from small employers and local authorities through to multi-national businesses, including a national charity in the care sector.
She now advises employers on settlement agreements, dismissals, grievances, contracts of employment and discrimination issues. Drawing on her earlier experience of employment tribunal litigation, Belinda brings a practical understanding of workplace risk and dispute management.
Belinda said: “I was drawn to Mayo Wynne Baxter because of the strength and reputation of its employment team and the depth of experience across the firm.
“I am particularly focused on helping employers take a proactive approach to employment issues – putting the right processes and decisions in place early to reduce the likelihood of disputes escalating.
“The most rewarding part of my work is seeing practical advice lead to better outcomes for both businesses and individuals.”
Rohit brings a broad legal background across employment law, civil litigation and personal injury – providing a well-rounded perspective on dispute resolution and risk management.
He advises employers on matters including disciplinary and grievance processes, redundancy and restructuring, and Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE).
He also represents clients in employment tribunal proceedings and supports organisations in drafting contracts, settlement agreements, and workplace policies designed to manage risk and ensure compliance.
Rohit said: “I’m delighted have joined a firm with a strong reputation for high-quality employment work and a genuinely collaborative culture.
“What stood out to me was the emphasis on delivering clear, practical advice that clients can act on with confidence.
“Employment law is constantly evolving and I enjoy helping clients respond to that – whether that means resolving disputes effectively or strengthening their internal processes to prevent issues arising in the first place.”
Nicola Brown, partner and head of employment at Mayo Wynne Baxter, added: “Belinda and Rohit are strong additions to the team and reflect our continued focus on building depth and expertise within our employment offering.
“Our clients are dealing with increasingly complex workforce issues and they need advisers who can combine technical strength with practical, commercial judgment.
“Belinda’s previous in-house employment experience and Rohit’s broad contentious and advisory background further strengthen our ability to support clients across the full spectrum of employment law.”
