Planning Update- Riding arena faces call-in

The Government Office for the South East (GOSE) will consider calling in a controversial application in an area of outstanding natural beauty if it is agreed by Wealden District Council this week. This means that the council will not have the power to ultimately make the decsion as to whether the development can stay. The arena was out in place without planning permission at Hartfield in the High Weald.

The proposal has drawn criticism from the Open Spaces Society. "Our main concern is the footpath," said general secretary Kate Ashbrook. "But even if they divert it, this development is an eyesore that generates traffic in this tranquil and beautiful landscape."

If you are considering any equestrian undertaking, whether for commercial or private use, you should be aware that this will require planning permission. If you are a neighbour who is affected by potential development then you should not hesitate to contact the local council. We can provide expert advice on this issue, whether you are thinking of a sand school, or whether you are a neighbour.
