What compensation is available?

As well as having to face the trauma of a medical accident, the victim is often left with no explanation of what went wrong and why. At Mayo Wynne Baxter we try to provide help in finding out what went wrong and how to put things right. We can help with making a complaint and, of course, where appropriate, obtaining compensation and financial security in the future.

Compensation for personal injury may include compensation for pain and suffering (including psychological damage) as well as financial loss such as:

• Loss of past and future earnings
• Rehabilitation costs
• Care since the injury and care for the future
• Medical expenses and prescriptions
• Equipment/transport needs
• Adapted housing needs
• Reduced employment prospects

We have experience of claims from £5,000 to over £5 million.

The dedicated Catastrophic Injury Unit consists of a team of specialist solicitors who specialise in complex brain and spinal injury claims, and possess a wealth of experience in working with children and adults with these conditions. Our many years of practice in catastrophic injury and clinical negligence litigation, has given our brain and spinal injury lawyers a clear and precise understanding of the complex
medical and legal issues associated with claims of this nature. We have developed an extensive network of industry experts, including barristers, medical practitioners, care experts and case mangers who work closely with our team of spinal and brain injury lawyers. We recognise that the culmination of a claim with an award of compensation does not mark the end for either the claimant or the claimant’s family. Brain injury claimants will often be awarded considerable sums of money that require careful investment to ensure that the claimant’s various needs are met. We offer a Deputyship service whereby we will shoulder the considerable burden of managing the claimant’s care requirements and overseeing the investment of the claimant’s compensation.

Time limits

With any personal injury claim there are time limitations and you only have a certain period to make a claim - this is usually three years from the date of the accident or negligent or omission (but not always - so check with us).
