Negligent dental treatment

£5,000 was recovered for a client whose dental treatment was carried out negligently

Failure to properly treat dental abscesses

There was a negligent failure to provide appropriate treatment for our client’s dental abscesses over a period of around five years. As a result of the negligence our client required emergency dental treatment on a number of occasions and he developed serious dental complications necessitating extensive treatment. Damages were agreed in the sum of £68,000.

For a dental claim this constituted a very high settlement. Damages were particularly high as our client required very extensive dental treatment to correct the damage caused by the negligence. The value of future dental treatment required was in the region of £40,000. The final settlement figure also incorporated damages for pain and suffering associated with this future dental treatment.

Dental negligence

Our client pursued a claim in respect of the negligent failure to diagnose and treat periodontal disease over a period of ten years. The dental practitioner was further negligent in failing to refer to a specialist. As a result of the negligence our client had to undergo painful and lengthy treatment for gum disease and bone augmentation treatment. She also unnecessarily lost a tooth and was likely to lose a further tooth in the future.

Agreed settlement: £5,000
